Living in a big city like London can expose our skin to harmful pollution which can sadly speed up our natural aging process. Thankfully good skin care and healthy lifestyle choices can really help delay natural aging and prevent your skin from looking and feeling dull. Nothing feels and looks better than healthy glowing skin and we at Silou are all about feeling good from the inside and out. Our co-founder Phoebe Greenacre shares her top tips for achieving a healthy fresh-faced glow.

1. Hydration Is Key

Water would be my first point of call when it comes to having juicy and glowing skin. You can never have enough. And living in the land of central heating, our skin gets completely dried out in the cooler months. I always have a huge glass of water when waking up, followed by hot water and a squeeze of lemon. Best to flush out as many toxins in the morning as possible as well as drinking 2-3 litres per day.

2. Sweat, Sweat, Sweat

Sweating is your best friend when it comes to youthful skin. No matter how you like to get your sweat on, from power yoga to a run in the park or sweating in a sauna, you’ll open up your pores and get rid of any impurities. My mantra is to sweat every day.

3. Glowing Diet, Glowing Face.

It’s very true when they say what you eat will mirror back onto your face. Layering your daily diet with loads of fresh vegetables and good fats is going to improve the texture of the skin. Think local fresh organic vegetables, avocados, nuts, seeds and coconut oil. These whole foods will keep your skin supple, moist and glowing.

4. The Double Cleanse

Living in London, your skin is always on the defence all day long fighting off pollution and air bound nasties. Make sure you are double cleansing your skin when you get home from a day out. The first cleanse is to take off your products and rid of pollution and the second is to cleanse the pores and skin. My favourite is Lisa Franklin’s Anti Pollution cleanse followed by the Phyto Gel Wash. Both these products have helped my skin stay blemish free.

5. Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid can help your skin look and feel more supple. Roughly half of the hyaluronic acid in your body is present in your skin, where it binds to water to help retain moisture. I wish I had started using this product many years ago as it has been revolutionary to my skin. I love Balance Me’s Tri-Molecular Hyaluronic Serum for that extra boost before applying anything to my face.

6. Regular Facials

In my twenties, I definitely didn’t have enough facials as I thought I had better things to spend my money on. But now into my mid-thirties, and about to get married, I make getting a facial a regular habit. My favourite facialists in London include Yvonne Martin, Lisa Franklin and Sarah Chapman.
