ABOUT US

Behind the Brand

By Nicole Gallacher

Every SILOU-ette is consciously considered before they reach you. To truly appreciate your SILOU-ettes, you must understand the people and the lives they have touched before you. From the people in Lithuania & Italy who have grown, spun, dyed and produced the fibres for our fabrics. To the team in London who work together to sell and bring our insight and content on our brand. When you purchase a SILOU-ette, you are not only going to receive a quality item but you are supporting the slow process of clothing that really is so unique today. Once they reach you, we hope you cherish them and love them. When the day comes when they may become broken, we hope you mend them. We believe your activewear should make the test of time and move with you through all of life's moments - big and small.

SILOU comes to life through the creative and internationally diverse women behind the brand.

Tatiana, Phoebe, Arune, Sonya, Laura and Nicole continue to shape and curate the SILOU journey online to inspire and support through this new phase of life.

IT'S A TEAM EFFORT

SILOU London comes to life through the creative and internationally diverse women behind the brand. Tatiana, Phoebe, Arune, Sonya, Laura and Nicole continue to shape and curate the SILOU journey online to inspire and support through this new phase of life

Tatiana Kovylina - Founder

Tell us where we'd find you in the House of SILOU

Always on the phone, usually in our snug showroom upstairs. Otherwise, in the kitchens grazing on our delicious snacks

How are you making a difference with sustainability? What small changes have you implemented?

I'm vegan and don’t use plastic. My businesses are built on principles of sustainability from production, through to packaging. We create with the present and future in mind

You are unique and that is your power

How are you making a difference with sustainability? What small changes have you implemented?

From recycling pretty much everything at home, to always trying to buy for life rather than for a season. I look at every single clothing label to see what the fabric contents are (and always go for natural fibres). I also make sure to support small brands where I can. Oh and I never leave home without my keep cup and reusable SILOU water bottle

After hours, where can we find you?

Right now – Taking long walks around the river, dance parties in my living room, eating loads of baked beans, hosting IG Live meditations or my online YIN Therapy class. I really do try to get into nature as much as possible

laura drane - designer & production

Tell us what we would see you doing at the House of SILOU

Drawing up our newest range, fitting samples, communicating with our European production teams or glued to the office Nespresso Machine

How are you making a difference with sustainability? What small changes have you implemented?

All of my design choices are centred around trying to make our product as sustainable as possible, it’s never a second thought. Be it fabric wastage on a pattern or the fabric selected to make sure it has an eco story. On a more day-to-day basis, I am never seen without a canvas bag!

“Through judging we separate, through understanding, we grow”

Tell us where we'd find you in the House of SILOU

Discussing content with our founders and team, organising events, creating newsletters and social media stories and posts, managing our samples, and generally playing the role as office DJ

How are you making a difference with sustainability? What small changes have you implemented?

I like to think I do a little more than just giving up plastic straws. Choice – sometimes it can feel difficult to styles that fit your wardrobe aesthetic, so I like to consider the art of two-in-one shopping. Will I wear this forever, can I wear it in summer and winter? What will I style it with. Research - it’s easy now for brands to market themselves as sustainable, so do your research. I remember when I was a buyer being asked to invest in vegan trainers, well most don’t biodegrade. So make sure to research your decisions. Reuse - refillable shampoo and conditioner bottles. For me, this has been the best adjustment. Silky smooth hair, zero silicones and I prefer how my shower looks too

“Work hard and be nice to people” – it really is that simple.

arune daunoraviciute - digital marketing & e-commerce

Tell us where we'd find you in the House of SILOU

Managing our e-commerce store, digital ads, responding to customer enquiries via email and/or phone, liaising with our warehouse team, and desperately trying to get my inbox to zero at the end of each day

How are you making a difference with sustainability? What small changes have you implemented?

When it comes to sustainable living, I’m by no means perfect but I do my absolute best to find ways to improve my choices as a consumer. I believe that the small changes we make on a daily basis make a big difference. I’m slowly phasing my previous “fast fashion” purchases out with the long-lasting, for-life item. Recycling is non-negotiable for me and I take it very seriously – I always read the label to make sure the item is recyclable. I’ve also started making my own non-toxic household cleaning products to use as less harmful chemicals in my home as possible

It’s better to go 100 miles an hour in the wrong direction than cautiously in the right because action and failure are the most information-rich data streams in existence. You’ll learn very little by going slow and even less if you stand still

sonya prior - brand & strategy

Tell us where we'd find you in the House of SILOU

In a heated love triangle with excel and my emails, giving impromptu astrology readings, proofreading everything, strategising with the many in-house and external touch points we have and always making an elaborate lunch

How are you making a difference with sustainability? What small changes have you implemented?

Sustainability and recycling are ingrained from growing up in New Zealand, so for me, it’s small things you can incorporate into your everyday life that leads to consistent change. Double check what you're putting into your recycling bins because a lot actually can't be or has very fine print. A little bit of effort from everyone goes a long way. Plus building habits in one area of your life allows you create more elsewhere

Care to share your favourite piece of advice?

Here's a two for one, “you don’t need to set yourself on fire to keep other people warm” and "don't set someone else on fire for your own warmth"

We’re not going to lie, this doesn’t make our activewear sound very sexy (maybe it’s all about the delivery) but we’re pretty happy about it. Building a sustainable brand isn’t easy.
